The Olean General Hospital rapid response team, celebrating five years of service, has performed nearly 3,000 cardiac catheterization procedures since the Olean General Hospital/Kaleida Health lab opened in 2013.

In October, Olean General Hospital will celebrate the five-year anniversary of the opening of its interventional cardiac catheterization laboratory.

Dr. Chee Kim is a cardiac electrophysiologist and director of electrophysiology innovation and clinical integration with Kaleida Health.

That’s the complicated title.

“I tell my patients, 'We have plumbers and we have electricians. I'm an electrician,' Chee said. “I deal with the electrical abnormalities of the heart.”

Kids and Cancer and Steven Herrmann, MD, Ph.D., were honored at Bradford Regional Medical Center’s eighth annual Spring Swing Gala April 14 at the Pennhills Club. Dr. Herrmann, Bradford-based cardiologist with General Physician, PC, a division of Kaleida Health,  received the Physician Philanthropy Excellence Award for his dedication to providing heart care and education and support in the community.

Some of the most common issues affecting people worldwide are aortic stenosis (narrowing or obstruction of the aortic valve), atrial fibrillation (irregular heart rhythm), and degenerative mitral regurgitation (connective tissue of the mitral valve causes lesions preventing normal heart function). Now, more than ever, the following minimally invasive technologies are saving and improving lives.

Dr Iyer, an interventional cardiologist with Great Lakes Cardiovascular, explains how they treat blockages in arteries and the minimally invasive procedures available.

By their very nature of being community-based, hospitals have long faced difficulties in expanding their potential customer base.

Of course, in markets with multiple hospitals, growing patient volume has resulted from stealing market share from their competition. Unlike businesses selling more tangible products, there wasn’t much a hospital could sell online or by phone.

The Gates Vascular Institute (GVI), in partnership with the Jacobs Institute (JI) and a medical device company, broadcasted two lives cases to ten East African countries, including Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe, reaching over 30 physicians in mid- October.

The James “J.E.” O’Mara Cardiology Imaging Suite was dedicated at Bradford Regional Medical Center Wednesday.

The suite, the echo and stress lab area on the second floor, is named in memory of O’Mara, former board chairman of the Bradford Hospital Foundation and tireless advocate for rural healthcare, who passed away Feb. 5.
